How to build a modular garage workbench

This is an easy and efficent way to build your own modular workbench/ workstation system. You can build a configuration that works best for your area with these free standing modular units. They are easily joined together to make a workbench combination.

Its like Lego for your garage, buy the blocks you like and add them together in the combination you want to create your garage dream.

The space you need works around a total height at of 2M or to 0.95M to the benchtop, depth is 46cm plus some space for vertical pillars at 3cm, length is up to you as you can keep adding more modules - no limit and you can even go around internal 90 degree corners and keep adding.

To work out the exact length of a project you need to know the size of each module piece which are listed below.

The bench tops come in 3 sizes that cover either 1, or 2 or 3 base unit spaces.

  • Base units are 680mm wide x 460mm deep x 910mm high without the benchtop.
  • Double base 7 Drawer with Cupboard is 1.36m x 460mm deep x 950mm high, this comes with a benchtop already fitted.
  • Single door tall lockers are 600mm wide x 460mm deep x 2m tall
  • Double door tall lockers are 915mm wide x 460m deep x 2m tall
  • Workbench tops are stainless steel wrapped over wood, 40mm in height, Sizes are
    • 680mm   for 1 base unit
    • 1360mm for 2 base units
    • 2040mm to cover 3 base units. They can be butted together to extend the total length.

To get the most out of your workbench system add pegboards and upper cabinets but this is not essential. These are sized to match the width of the base units.

3 module (2.040m) base plus 3 overhead cabinets & pegboards is often the starter kit, you can insert any other base unit into the 680mm gap including the centre rolling cabinet

2M Base Set that can be added to as above.

Pegboard are availabie with or without a power outlet, these have the Euro style square mounting holes. Upper storeage cabinets can be mounted to the pegboard if desired or you can leave this area free for larger pegboard space.

Corner units are also available that can make the system fit internal corner walls. Vertical pillars are used to join the units together to make a free-standing set. These units are not mounted to the wall and can be moved if required.

Tool kits in EVA trays are available to match the drawer sizes. Peg Hooks cand attachments can be found in our accessory page.

Base units refer to the cabinets that sit under the bench, you can mix and match these to your own choice as they are all same dimensions. The options are:

  • 4 Drawer Unit
  • 5 Drawer Unit
  • 7 Drawer Units
  • 2 Door Cupboard Unit
  • Rubbish Bin with Paper Roll Holder
  • Sink Unit
  • There is also a 5 drawer roll cab that can be used in the centre of 3 modules or leave the centre section free so a chair can be used as a desk area.
  • If your floor is uneven or has a slight slope we have sets of adjustable feet that can be screwed into the base of each unit. These are purchased separately.
